TSM Products Fermentation Pot, 10 Liter capacity Review

TSM Products Fermentation Pot, 10 Liter capacity
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered this pot after I had purchased 2 sizes of the Harsch Fermenting pots just because I liked the color and shape of the TSM and wanted to try it and compare with the pots I already use. I still like the color and outside shape, but those are the only things I prefer to the Harsch pot. The TSM has a smaller channel for the lid and does not hold as much water. That means that one must be more attentive and diligent in keeping the channel filled to maintain the seal and I definitely prefer the lower maintenance Harsch pots. The interior of the pot narrows towards the top and I apparently didn't buy enough veggies as I should have because the stone weights weren't big enough and I needed to add paper-weights to cover the large area that weren't weighted by the stones. The straight sides of the Harsch pot make it easier to make smaller batches if you aren't perfect in your calculations of how many vegetables to buy and process. I didn't like was that the edge of the lid was not glazed and the lid itself absorbed water from the channel that gets slimy. It seemed unsanitary. The water absorbtion was also an issue with my first batch because as the lid swelled, a large crack revealed itself. (Amazon was great about replacing it.)

I recently ordered this book from Amazon.com and I have not been disappointed. From the Flylady website I knew that Leanne Ely has some of the most delicious recipes. My family has raved over most of the recipes that I received from Leanne through Flylady. The same holds true for the recipes that are in SAVING DINNER. The food I have prepared using this cookbook has been popular with my family. I love having the menus and shopping lists prepared for me. It saves me about thirty to forty minutes each week in meal planning preparation. I should add that these recipes take thirty minutes or less to prepare.

Norpro Large No Post Stainless Steel Vegetable Steamer Review

Norpro Large No Post Stainless Steel Vegetable Steamer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This steamer insert is too large to use in smaller pots, so be sure to measure and make sure your pot is at least 7" wide on the inside. The feet won't scratch your pot, and removing the cooked vegetables is much easier without the center post common to cheaper steamers. With this one, I can just use a large spoon to scoop out the items, or if I want I can hoist the entire steamer out of the pan by grabbing the rings on the sides, but that's pretty tricky when it's fully of steaming veggies.

The three pronged base provides stability equal to those with center posts, so instead of one central handle there are two ring style side handles. The side handles supports the basket's shape, rather than allowing it to open flat upon lifting.Capacity for more to steam.Segments fold inward for compact storage

The French Don't Diet Plan: 10 Simple Steps to Stay Thin for Life Review

The French Don't Diet Plan: 10 Simple Steps to Stay Thin for Life
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've read The Fat Fallacy, taken Dr. Clowers' PATH training, and met the man in person. This book is like sitting down and having a conversation with him. It's clarity, it's promise, it's decadence in moderation.
I owe my life to Dr. Clower. In 2004 I had hit my highest weight ever, been diagnosed with chronic hypertension and Type 2 diabetes, and I could barely move or walk without pain and being out of breath. I was on the verge of submitting to weight loss surgery! I wholeheartedly adopted the principles in the book "The Fat Fallacy" and I've dropped nearly 70 pounds, reduced my hypertension, nearly reversed my diabetes AND had a happy, healthy bouncing baby boy! And, no weight loss surgery, either.
And this was accomplished even without all the wonderful information I've learned in the last couple of months with the PATH training and what is in "The French Don't Diet". I realize now that I have more room for improvement and I'm eager for the changes and continued good health and weight loss. Never has eating and being active been so fun and delicious.
I've never lived a 'low-fat' life, but I did overeat for decades and I ate many bad-for-me foods. Now, I don't eat it if I don't know what's in it, I don't buy it without looking at the ingredients, and I've begun to step out of my comfort zone and actually prepared foods for myself like bread, gravies, salad dressings. Things I felt inept at creating, so I bought pre-packaged and pre-prepared versions chock full of chemicals and faux foods and health-sapping components. I've tried several recipes in Dr. Clower's books and they are amazing! And easy! So easy it's crazy. I spent years avoiding creating in the kitchen out of fear. Fear and laziness. Something the food industry capitalizes on. But, not anymore!
I appreciate the knowledge Dr. Clower and his books have imparted to me and my family and friends. We now know what's healthy and what's not. We enjoy our food and our lives so much more now, and we're losing weight and getting healthy in the process!
The best thing you can do for your self and your family is read this book and adopt the principles contained within. This isn't a 'diet' it's a lifestyle. A French lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle. Mind, body, spirit.
Once you do this there is no going back to the Standard American Diet. The SAD will kill you.

14" S/S PIZZA PAN Review

14 S/S PIZZA PAN
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love my pan, but it is definately not non-stick. You do need to lightly oil it, or use parchment paper, but is durable, functional, beautiful, and does not have that nasty non-stick coating that's so bad for you. My asthmatic son does not do well with non-stick being used in the house at all - it gives off fumes, let alone what peels off into your food. Stainless Steel or glass is much safer and healthier.
It's dishwasher safe, but if you get a lot of food stuck on it, just soak it first. If it gets a little baked on oil, or other stain, just clean it off gently with a little baking soda and water on a sponge or paper towel.

Harsch Gairtopf Fermenting Crock Pot - 5 Liter - ME7409 Review

Harsch Gairtopf Fermenting Crock Pot - 5 Liter - ME7409
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had this Harsch Gairtopf Fermenting Crock Pot on my wish list for years. I at long last finally made the purchase when I found the 7.5.Litre size recently through an Amazon link for $119 and free shipping!!! It is the German fermentation stoneware crock by Harsch Steinzeug and has no labelling for Miracle (the sole importer) as it is shown at Amazon. (Mine just arrived from Germany. It was on back order for some time).
This fermentation crock pot is highest quality as you might expect from German craftsmen. It truly is the Mercedes Benz of stoneware fermentation pots. It is made of stoneware and covered with a lead-free glazing. It is beautiful and easy to handle, clean and use.
The unique Harsch method of fermentation is proven. The crock includes 2 stoneware weighing stones which replace the wooden board and cloth of other methods. (If you've ever done fermentation that way, you know the problems you can have). Furthermore the lid has a deep water groove which provides an airtight sealing that prevents undesired yeast from forming. Clear instructions are included as well as some basic recipes.
I debated for a long time between the 5 litre and 7.5 litre crocks. I ended up choosing the 7.5 litre size. (There are also larger ones ranging from 10 to 50 litres). I was a little afraid that I had chosen a crock much too large for just a single person like myself but I'm very glad I settled on the 7.5L. It's perfect although I would still like the 5L too so I can being doing a smaller batch of some other food such as kimchi or pickles fermenting at the same time.
I do have 4 large heads of organic cabbage, about 12 lbs, filling the 7.5L to capacity and fermenting beautifully right now. Considering how much I have to spend each week on store-bought organic, unpasteurized sauerkraut or other cultured vegetables ~ my Harsch crock is going to pay for itself in no time! I am anticipating 8 one quart Mason jars of finished kraut
I love my beautiful Harsch crock, definitely would buy it all over again and hope to do just that soon!

Norpro Deluxe 3-Piece Bamboo Steamer Set Review

Norpro Deluxe 3-Piece Bamboo Steamer Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For healthy, nutritional, quick, low mess cooking, make almost any dish with a steamer. This steamer is mid range in terms of quality of material and build. It isn't the El Cheapo department store variety that is held together with metal staples, bound to end up in the trash can after several uses. With proper care, this steamer should last you several years. Soak the new steamer in cold water for a few hours when you first get it. Always store in an open air place to prevent mildew. Clean up is a breeze, just wipe with a paper towel, or if needed a quick dunk in soapy water and then rinse.
Steamers fit best on woks that are 2 inches larger than the steamer, therefore, a 12 inch wok would work best with this steamer. Other than the recipe on the side of the box, there is nothing in the box other than the steamer. You can cook or reheat your food by placing it directly on the bamboo, paper towel, leaves, parchment paper or by placing it on a heat resistant plate or in a bowl. Also, you can add or remove steamer layers while cooking. For even quicker food prep, if you're having noodles with the meal, you can cook them in the water in the bottom of the wok - a one pan meal.Steaming is truly quick and efficient cooking at its best.

Simple, Fresh & Healthy: A Collection of Seasonal Recipes Review

Simple, Fresh and Healthy: A Collection of Seasonal Recipes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Once upon a time many people thought that eating "healthy" meant getting out a scale, weighing their food, counting calories and suffering in silence. With the advent of a push for the inclusion of fresh, healthy foods in our diets, more and more people are turning to locally grown foods. Seemingly simple fruits and vegetables come alive in Simple, Fresh & Healthy: A Collection of Seasonal Recipes. Take for example sweet potatoes. This common root vegetable is a favorite in the South and when Thanksgiving rolls around, it is one of our favored holiday side dishes. When browsing this book I was immediately drawn to a dish of "Maple-Roasted Sweet Potatoes." The simple addition of two tablespoons of pure maple syrup added to the natural sweetness of the vegetable and will make this roasted dish a delightful addition to any meal at any time of the year.
Divided into seasonal sections, the book teems with scrumptious, mouthwatering recipes to suit every taste. Oftentimes I find that cookbooks have a tendency to be overly regional, cater to a slice of the population, or try a tad too hard to outdo the Julia Childs of the world. This book is totally refreshing and the unique recipes are sure to please a wide variety of people. Few people would turn down a nice cold glass of lemonade made from scratch on a hot summer day nor would many turn away from a warm French toast soufflé smothered in maple syrup on a cold winter's day. There are recipes that will excite both the younger cook and those who have been cooking for many years. Perhaps you'll simply need to whip up some fresh peach salsa, open a bag of chips, and start browsing this book!
Those with special dietary needs or the calorie conscious won't be disappointed as each recipe comes with a complete nutrient analysis listed at the bottom. Few recipes list the preparation time, but this book is for the food lover who loves the preparation as much as they love to savor the results, not for those whose idea of a meal depends on prep time. Take for example, the recipe for "Fresh Strawberry Pie." If you are not willing to wait for it to chill in the refrigerator for four hours after making it, you'd best buy frozen at your local grocery store and miss out on the treat of a lifetime with this to die for pie. Most of the recipes are prefaced by a brief personal vignette or preparation tip. The ingredients are colorfully highlighted so the cook can easily gather them up. The photographs are very enticing and elicited more than one "mmmmmm!" in this household. There is one relative that tries and very often succeeds in walking off with my new cookbooks, but this one will soon be going into hiding!
Quill says: If you want to experience natural, healthy, family cooking, this is one cookbook you simply won't want to pass up!
