(More customer reviews)I have owned several crock pots over the years, but when I am cooking for just myself and my husband the bigger crock pots scorched the food because there wasn't
enough in there to properly cook slowly (I researched this online, and found crockpots need to be at least half full to cook properly). So I bought this smaller 4 qt size and it's perfect size for our smaller meals. I'v used it twice now and it cooks evenly and the meals turn out cooked just right. I like the oval design, if I wanted to, I could fit a whole chicken in it.
It has rubber on the bottom of the feet, so it will not slide around on the counter.
That said, I do wish the cord was a bit longer. And the controls are very simple; off, low, high, warm (manual). But I knew that before I bought it.
When the food was cooked, I turned it to warm, it didn't over heat the meal in the hour+ it sat waiting to be consumed, it just stayed warm, (Aw, finally). My other crock pot would be on warm, and the food would burn up within an hour. So this is a true slow cooker and for us, it works very well. And the price was unbeatable too!

Hamilton Beach 33163 Stay Or Go 6 Quart Oval Slow Cooker Review

(More customer reviews)I have owned many slow cookers; all which were given to me, also they were typically hand me downs. This is the first cooker that I have actually bought. For me, this cooker does a great job, it does not cook any better or worse than the other cookers I have had, but it is larger and has a few nice features. 1, it has a sealed lid than can be tightly connected for travel (the other night we moved 5 quarts of hot pasta sauce to my sister-in-law's house. There was sauce all over the inside of the lid, but none of the sauce made it out). 2, It comes with a plastic spoon; nothing special about the spoon, but it attaches to the lid for travel. 3, there is a lid rest that allows you to set the lid to the side without setting it on your counter. 4, the side handles have a rubber coating , are securely attached and extend quite a way from the side of the cooker (which is good because it gets hot). This cooker did not come with the carry case, but there are versions that do. Those versions cost more than the $28.00 that this one cost me.
Some reviews go own about the cookers being too hot on the low setting. I put 4 quarts of water in the cooker. After 6 hours, the water temp was 208 degrees. I don't know if that is good or bad, but I don't think it should boil (212 degrees)on the low setting.
The cooker is roughly 13.5 pounds (on my scale)
I measures approximately 10.5" tall by 17' wide by 13" deep.
It cleans up well, the crock is removable and dishwasher safe. The exterior is stainless steel;I use a stainless polish on my appliances. The cord is not detachable.
I believe this is a great little cooker, it has Off, High, low, and warm settings. It does not have the fancy electronic controls and timers that some of the more expensive units have, but I kind of like the reliability of the switch style controls.
Perhaps the feet on the bottom of the cooker could be a little better than the protruding metal dimples. It slides very easily (maybe too easy) across the counter.

Hamilton Beach 33141 4-Quart Oval Slow Cooker Review

(More customer reviews)There are 2 kinds of slow cookers, depending on where the heat source is. This Hamilton Beach unit has heat coils around the sides which stay hot, as opposed to slow cookers with heat sources in the base, which turn on and off intermittently. I have found that with this type of constant heat slow cooker (with the coils around the sides) I don't need to add as much liquid. In fact I cut the liquid (water or stock) by half of what the recipes call for when I use this cooker. The 4 quart size is good for roasts up to 3 or so pounds. If you slow cook chicken or game hens in it, cut the bird up into pieces and remove the skins. Don't slow cook a whole uncut bird (in any kind of slow cooker).
This is a nice little slow cooker for a single, a couple, or a small family. I have had no problems with the knob* (as yet).
*The knob problem probably arises from the close proximity of the heating element to the knob, as opposed to slow cookers that heat from the bottom, away from the knob...
NOVEMBER 2007 UPDATE: We still love this little slow cooker. It is perfect for making Irish beef stews all winter long. The knob on ours has not broken yet but we try to be gentle with it, due to the warnings we read.
DECEMBER 2008 UPDATE: We're still using this 4 quart slow cooker. We have used it for a lot of baked beans and slow cooked barbecue beef dishes on the weekends. The knob has not broken yet, but we are not rough with it either. We really like this little slow cooker.
FEBRUARY 2009 UPDATE: The cooker still works fine. We have used it once a week or more this winter, for everything from navy beans to chuck roasts. The knob has not broken yet (we are gentle with the knob if it's hot).
JANUARY 2010 UPDATE: The cooker still works well and the knob is still intact. Took it to work last Tuesday, cooked stuffed chicken cutlets & veggies in the kitchenette/break room, everybody loved them, there were no leftovers.

The water seal in this really works, and TSM products is right here in Buffalo NY. Be sure you get the matching stone weights. (More customer reviews)I use this little crockpot to make steel-cut oatmeal for a healthy breakfast, and it works just great! The temperature is fine and I haven't had an issue with overcooked oatmeal.
Another reviewer noted one of the frustrating things about this little slow cooker, and that's that the insert isn't removable, as it is on some big crock pots. That makes cleaning frustrating. I've found a good solution to that - I add a little bit of water to the pot and then insert a large ramekin into the basin. The lid still fits just fine, to keep too much water from evaporating. It turns it into kind of a "double boiler" setup, which buffers the heat and gives me an easily removable bowl of oatmeal in the morning. For a while, I was eating right out of the crock pot, but this solution is much better. Any crusty oatmeal can then just get washed out in the dishwasher and I rarely have to worry about cleaning the small crockpot itself.
I love this little appliance - I don't think anything else would work quite as well for the purpose I use it for.

(More customer reviews)I am very happy with this, but it is enormous. With the handles, it's 15.5" across - i wasn't expecting anything that big. So keep that in mind when you factor in where you plan to store it. But it operates very well, have not had any problem at all with overheating, which seems to be a major complaint of many brands and models, and have tried it with several recipies using the 2- and 4-quart size bowls. On Target site, multiple people complined that it stopped working shortly after purchase. That worried me, but so far I have been lucky, and it's working fine.

TSM Products Fermentation Pot, 10 Liter capacity Review

(More customer reviews)I ordered this pot after I had purchased 2 sizes of the Harsch Fermenting pots just because I liked the color and shape of the TSM and wanted to try it and compare with the pots I already use. I still like the color and outside shape, but those are the only things I prefer to the Harsch pot. The TSM has a smaller channel for the lid and does not hold as much water. That means that one must be more attentive and diligent in keeping the channel filled to maintain the seal and I definitely prefer the lower maintenance Harsch pots. The interior of the pot narrows towards the top and I apparently didn't buy enough veggies as I should have because the stone weights weren't big enough and I needed to add paper-weights to cover the large area that weren't weighted by the stones. The straight sides of the Harsch pot make it easier to make smaller batches if you aren't perfect in your calculations of how many vegetables to buy and process. I didn't like was that the edge of the lid was not glazed and the lid itself absorbed water from the channel that gets slimy. It seemed unsanitary. The water absorbtion was also an issue with my first batch because as the lid swelled, a large crack revealed itself. (Amazon was great about replacing it.)

Also, most smaller crock pots have only one setting, but this one has three (high, low, and keep warm). It has a nice glass lid and a removable ceramic crock, both of which you can clean in the dishwasher. I use mine at least a few times a week, and I'm very satisfied with the purchase.

4 Quart Slow Cooker 33141 Review

(More customer reviews)This is a very attractive but very basic cooker. What I mean by that is it has nothing digital on it, no timer, no temperature gauge not even a power light "which would have been nice". It has a hand knob with off, warm, low and high on it, nice and simple. It has a heavy crock that fits inside and an attractive glass cover. It also has a very attractive silver and black exterior. It does not take up very much room on our counter top, just a little more than a loaf of bread. In fact that is what we store in it when it's not in use. The price from this vender seems high with the shipping charge. If you check around you will probably find a better price on this.
This oval cooker will hold a larger piece of meat in it as apposed to a round one of a comparable size. It really does not have to be watched when cooking. The heat comes from around the sides instead of the bottem, so nothing to burn on the bottem. Meat comes out more tender by cooking it on low for a longer period of time, as apposed to cooking on high for a shorter time. I love pot roast, that is one of the main reasons I go it. It will hold up to about a 4 lb. roast, more than enough for my wife and I. Some dishes requre cooking on high for so many hours and than switch to low heat for the remainder of the time. I'm retired and it is no problem for me to do it manually. But if you work or are going to be out of the house all day, you might want to consider a digital cooker. Most of these can be set to automatically switch from high to low and warm at a preset time. So far it has worked out well for me with the manual settings, and I am very happy with it.
I gave this 5 stars not because this is the best slow cooker out there " I don't know that " but because it is doing every thing I expected it to do when I bought it.

Crock Pot SCV700-B 7 Quart Black Oval Slow Cooker Review

(More customer reviews)I hesitate to give this a one star rating, but there is no zero. This item is nice looking, but beyond that it is extremely unsafe. Ok, it's downright dangerous! Right after I got it, I noticed that the sides got so hot that you could actually burn yourself by just bumping into it. I actually had to use pot holders just to move it. It boils liquids even on low or warm settings. After that, it began to leak all over the counter even when using slow cooker bags. That was when I noticed that it had been getting so hot that it actually cracked the ceramic pot insert causing the leaks. Do not waste your money with this cheap product. It does not last long enough for you to get your hard earned 25 dollars out of it.

(More customer reviews)After my experience, I looked up KitchenAid's website. There they have a forum and a special thread for those who have had their crocks crack. Some people are on their 3rd replacement and the crocks are cracking in the same place every time.
MY REVIEW:
I bought this KitchenAid slow cooker in black and I really had to talk myself into buying it because it was so expensive. I kept telling myself you get what you pay for. Well, tonight I want to cry because I had just started a pork roast to cook overnight. After leaving the kitchen, my husband and I both heard a loud pop. I went back and found my slow cooker leaking liquid all over the place. I took out the crock, turned it upside-down and found a winding crack all along the bottom.
I've only owned my KitchenAid slow cooker for about 2 weeks and the crack occurred during the third time I used it. At this point I don't know if I want a replacement slow cooker directly from KitchenAid or whether I want to return the slow cooker to Amazon for a refund. If I got a replacement, I would be nervous to leave it on overnight or when I leave home, which is the whole benefit of having a slow cooker. Worrying about your slow cooker that has a retail price of $150 doesn't seem like a very good value to me.

Harsch Gairtopf Fermenting Crock Pot - 10.0 Liter - ME7420 Review

I just moved from the city onto my own farm and will be getting lots of use out of this fermentation pot with all my home-grown veggies! So, far I have made Kimchi just to give the fermentation pot a go, and was VERY happy with the results.
The pot is really superb in that you basically toss in your veggies and brine, put in the stones and leave it alone. Just be sure to keep the water groove filled and you have nothing else to do except wait.
I bought the 10 L pot since it was the same price as the 7.5L (and with free shipping). It is really large, but I'm happy I bought the larger size as I have more freedom to adjust the size of the batch of fermented veggies I am making.
The beautiful finish on this pot fits perfectly with my kitchen and everyone in the house loves the little gurgling water noise it makes when "working" -- very relaxing!

I can make enough to last a few meals, but the Crock Pot works great even with a smaller amount of food -- you just want to make sure you've got plenty of liquid in there. I use my Crock Pot all the time, and it has worked perfectly from the moment I took it out of the box. I at long last finally made the purchase when I found it recently through an Amazon link for $119 and free shipping!!! It is the German fermentation stoneware crock by Harsch Steinzeug and has no labelling for Miracle (the sole importer) as it is shown at Amazon. (Mine just arrived from Germany. It was on back order for some time).
This fermentation crock pot is highest quality as you might expect from German craftsmen. It truly is the Mercedes Benz of stoneware fermentation pots. It is made of stoneware and covered with a lead-free glazing. It is beautiful and easy to handle, clean and use.
The unique Harsch method of fermentation is proven. The crock includes 2 stoneware weighing stones which replace the wooden board and cloth of other methods. (If you've ever done fermentation that way, you know the problems you can have). Furthermore the lid has a deep water groove which provides an airtight sealing that prevents undesired yeast from forming. Clear instructions are included as well as some basic recipes.
I purchased the 7.5 litre size. There is one smaller at 5 litres and several much larger ranging from 10 to 50 litres. I was a little afraid that I had chosen a crock much too large for just a single person like myself but I'm very glad I settled on the 7.5L. It's perfect and I'm glad I didn't choose the smaller one. I have 4 heads of organic cabbage, about 12 lbs, fermenting right now. Perfect! Considering how much I have to spend each week on store-bought organic, unpasteurized sauerkraut or other cultured vegetables ~ my Harsch crock is going to pay for itself in no time!
I love it and would buy the Harsch Gairtopf Fermenting Crock Pot - 7.5 Liter - ME7428 all over again!

West Bend 84384 4-Quart Oval-Shaped Crockery Cooker Review

(More customer reviews)I've been using various slow cookers for 40 years, and I really do like all of the little features on this one. The handles make it easy to hold, and it heats evenly.
I chose it for several reasons.
1) It is oval. Oval pots allow longer pieces of meat for cooking.
2) Four Quarts is a good size for preparing larger dishes for groups. (I go to a lot of potlucks).
3) At the same time, I can still make smaller dishes in it without worrying
4) It is simple. It has 3 settings, keep warm, low, and high. No fancy electronics to worry about.
When my last "Crockpot" broke, I debated between several sizes. I even looked at the fancy ones that had three sizes of pots included. After comparing prices, I settled on this 4-quart cooker. I figured I could buy it PLUS a small one and still have money left over. Add that to the fact that if I bought two different sizes with the base, I could have two different things cooking at the same time, and this was a real bargain.
If you haven't used a slow cooker before, depending on what you include, you may need to stir occasionally to keep it from burning/sticking. And, meats cook faster than vegies - so save your rare roasts for the oven - slow cookers are for well-done meat that is so tender it falls off the bone. Do check a recipe book or an online recipe before you start, and you'll be a lot happier.
