(More customer reviews)I have had this model for about a year or so. I love the size and shape- it will do great with a chicken or pot roast. But as with many slow cookers, this one overcooks a bit, so that even if you set it on low for 7 or 8 hours, it singes the food around the edges. The way the hinged lid is fastened to the outer (cooking) shell, you can't get the crock part out without tipping it at a 30 degree angle, minimum, which may or may not be a problem for you. If you need to get the crock out of the shell for serving purposes, this model will be a problem for you. Most importantly, the plastic handle on top of the glass lid that you use to lift up the lid melted and broke after 8 hours on low, dropping a piece into the crock.

(More customer reviews)This crockpot smelled like paint the first time I used it. I wish I had taken it back then. The handle on the lid broke around the one year mark. I called Rival, but they were of no help--the lids were out of stock and they offered no other solutions. I screwed in a knob from an older pot and it worked better than the original one. Then one of the handles on the side cracked. It still worked, but I have to use caution and warn my family when picking it up. This crockpot cooks extremely hot. Most of the time I cook on low, but sometimes warm is what other crockpots would consider low.Somehow a crack occurred around the bottom corner. A crusty line was on the outside of the crock when I removed it for serving. After one and a half years, I'm shopping for a different brand crockpot. My advice--don't buy it!

The low setting is quite high and I've burned more things than I care to remember. I've done all I can think of to adjust liquid levels and cooking times. Well, I've come home to find a charred roast for the last time. It's going in the trash!

Hamilton Beach 35135 Meal Maker Multicooker, Stainless Steel Review

(More customer reviews)Although this versatile appliance will steam and boil as well as deep fry, it was its frying ability that caught my interest and convinced me to buy it. And am I glad I did for last night we enjoyed some of the best fried chicken ever to come out of my kitchen. And yes, that's saying something. While we don't overindulge in fried foods, through the years I've fried my share of chicken, most of it to positive reviews. This batch was particularly moist and juicy, yet crisp on the outside, a fact which I attribute, at least in part, to the adjustable temperature gauge on the Multicooker. None of my other deep fryers had that feature. With the others, I was forced to rely on the manufacturers' preset temperature which I suspect wasn't really hot enough to prevent the chicken from absorbing some of the oil and becoming somewhat soggy. The Multicooker allows a range of 250° to 375 ° F. I set it at 375° as the manual suggests and the results were mouthwatering.
As for capacity, it's generous. The basket measures roughly 8" long by 7" wide and 3 1/2" deep. I was able to fit 4 large chicken thighs per batch with room to spare. I'm sure I could have added two more but I preferred to err on the side of caution to avoid overcrowding. Because the chicken was boneless and skinless, each batch only took about 10 minutes and was perfectly done. I fried three batches back-to-back and had no problems with the fryer overheating.
Deep frying is usually messy no matter how careful you try to be but my experience in that department was pretty positive too. The cooker is solidly built and simple to assemble. The lid fits the pot securely and the basket is easy to raise and lower with the lid in place, which greatly reduces spattering and the risk of burns.
I have no doubt that I'll use the Multicooker for boiling and steaming at some point but if all it ever did was deep fry, I'd still consider it money well spent.

(More customer reviews)I have owned several crock pots over the years, but when I am cooking for just myself and my husband the bigger crock pots scorched the food because there wasn't
enough in there to properly cook slowly (I researched this online, and found crockpots need to be at least half full to cook properly). So I bought this smaller 4 qt size and it's perfect size for our smaller meals. I'v used it twice now and it cooks evenly and the meals turn out cooked just right. I like the oval design, if I wanted to, I could fit a whole chicken in it.
It has rubber on the bottom of the feet, so it will not slide around on the counter.
That said, I do wish the cord was a bit longer. And the controls are very simple; off, low, high, warm (manual). But I knew that before I bought it.
When the food was cooked, I turned it to warm, it didn't over heat the meal in the hour+ it sat waiting to be consumed, it just stayed warm, (Aw, finally). My other crock pot would be on warm, and the food would burn up within an hour. So this is a true slow cooker and for us, it works very well. And the price was unbeatable too!

The last time we used it, we noticed lots of black flecks in our soup, ranging from tiny (at first we thought it was pepper) to about 1/2 inch in diameter. It was the black enamel of the pot flaking off into our food! When we washed the pot, our sponge was black with enamel. Yuck! I suppose you get what you pay for.

(More customer reviews)I've used this slow cooker twice while I was at work and contacted the company because the food was bubbling fiercely and caked to the sides after cooking on low all day. They told me that the low and high settings use the same temperature, but the high setting gets there faster. The appliance is beautiful and the quality seems to be very high, but if I can't cook a meal while I'm at work, then I have no use for it. This one's going to Goodwill.

(More customer reviews)This slow cooker is a nice size, and the oval shape allows me to cook a whole chicken. Digital timer counts down the time and has an automatic shut-off after 4 hours. Removable crock can be put in the dishwasher.I had not used a slow cooker for a long time, but decided it would come in handy for drier foods (such as chicken breast) and for when my husband has to eat later than I do. I made a mistake once, putting food directly into the holder. I could have damaged it, but luckily I didn't.

I have used mine for over a year for roasts, whole chickens, chili, soups, etc. and all are done to perfection on "low". Sounds to me like the other reviewer had a defective one. This slow cooker really IS versatile! I have the stainless steel model, not the black aluminum one. You can slow cook all day or speed things up by using medium or high temperature settings. I will replace mine immediately if it wears out...don't know what I would do without it! I use it almost every day.

West Bend 85157 7-Quart Oval-Shaped Crockery Cooker Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this crock pot because I was looking for something simple, oval shaped, and with a minimum 5 quart capacity. This looked just perfect, until I got it home and opened it.
When I set the base down on my counter, it rocked. Thinking there was something underneath or that the cord was trapped under a foot rest, I picked it up and reset it. Still tippy, with the lightest pressure on one of the handles or adjusting the lid. Thoroughly confused, I took out the crock insert and turned the base upside down.
I discovered the problem: This appliance is designed with only *3* legs. There are two legs in the front, where you would expect them on an oval shaped crock. The back, however, only has a SINGLE leg, slightly off center. Not only does this make the product tippy, but makes filling with food tricky. If the weight of the food is not perfectly balanced, (think an end roast) the crock will not sit level, it tips up off one of the front legs. In addition, if you were to stir hot food, you could EASILY cause the product to tip due to weight redistribution or pressure on the bottom of the pot, causing the hot contents to splash.
I believe this product has a dangerous design, and recommend finding an alternate product.

Hamilton Beach 33163 Stay Or Go 6 Quart Oval Slow Cooker Review

(More customer reviews)I have owned many slow cookers; all which were given to me, also they were typically hand me downs. This is the first cooker that I have actually bought. For me, this cooker does a great job, it does not cook any better or worse than the other cookers I have had, but it is larger and has a few nice features. 1, it has a sealed lid than can be tightly connected for travel (the other night we moved 5 quarts of hot pasta sauce to my sister-in-law's house. There was sauce all over the inside of the lid, but none of the sauce made it out). 2, It comes with a plastic spoon; nothing special about the spoon, but it attaches to the lid for travel. 3, there is a lid rest that allows you to set the lid to the side without setting it on your counter. 4, the side handles have a rubber coating , are securely attached and extend quite a way from the side of the cooker (which is good because it gets hot). This cooker did not come with the carry case, but there are versions that do. Those versions cost more than the $28.00 that this one cost me.
Some reviews go own about the cookers being too hot on the low setting. I put 4 quarts of water in the cooker. After 6 hours, the water temp was 208 degrees. I don't know if that is good or bad, but I don't think it should boil (212 degrees)on the low setting.
The cooker is roughly 13.5 pounds (on my scale)
I measures approximately 10.5" tall by 17' wide by 13" deep.
It cleans up well, the crock is removable and dishwasher safe. The exterior is stainless steel;I use a stainless polish on my appliances. The cord is not detachable.
I believe this is a great little cooker, it has Off, High, low, and warm settings. It does not have the fancy electronic controls and timers that some of the more expensive units have, but I kind of like the reliability of the switch style controls.
Perhaps the feet on the bottom of the cooker could be a little better than the protruding metal dimples. It slides very easily (maybe too easy) across the counter.
