Crock-Pot SCVC609SS 6-Quart Oval Programmable Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel Review

Crock-Pot SCVC609SS 6-Quart Oval Programmable Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

I have had this model for about a year or so. I love the size and shape- it will do great with a chicken or pot roast. But as with many slow cookers, this one overcooks a bit, so that even if you set it on low for 7 or 8 hours, it singes the food around the edges. The way the hinged lid is fastened to the outer (cooking) shell, you can't get the crock part out without tipping it at a 30 degree angle, minimum, which may or may not be a problem for you. If you need to get the crock out of the shell for serving purposes, this model will be a problem for you. Most importantly, the plastic handle on top of the glass lid that you use to lift up the lid melted and broke after 8 hours on low, dropping a piece into the crock.

SCVC609C-SS Cooker & Steamer Review

SCVC609C-SS Cooker and Steamer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This crockpot smelled like paint the first time I used it. I wish I had taken it back then. The handle on the lid broke around the one year mark. I called Rival, but they were of no help--the lids were out of stock and they offered no other solutions. I screwed in a knob from an older pot and it worked better than the original one. Then one of the handles on the side cracked. It still worked, but I have to use caution and warn my family when picking it up. This crockpot cooks extremely hot. Most of the time I cook on low, but sometimes warm is what other crockpots would consider low.Somehow a crack occurred around the bottom corner. A crusty line was on the outside of the crock when I removed it for serving. After one and a half years, I'm shopping for a different brand crockpot. My advice--don't buy it!

I hate this cooker. I have it a little over a year. The lid rattles during cooking. It also spits hot fluid all over the counter. The handles and exterior get very hot! The low setting is quite high and I've burned more things than I care to remember. I've done all I can think of to adjust liquid levels and cooking times. Well, I've come home to find a charred roast for the last time. It's going in the trash!

MEASURE CUP 20OZ Review

MEASURE CUP 20OZ
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The picture shows an 8 oz. measuring cup. The description says it is a 20 oz. measuring cup. I ordered it hurridly from the picture only. If I had known I was getting a 20 oz. cup, I wouldn't have ordered it. What I received looked nothing like the picture. The measuring cup I received was really, really bad. The quality was good, but the markings on the cup are almost impossible to read. The numbered markings are clear, on a tiny black background. I put a liquid in mine and had to hold it at different levels, and trying to get the light on it just right. I had a very hard time trying to use it.

Rival 5050-W Crock-Pot 5-Quart Slow Cooker Plus Skillet Review

Rival 5050-W Crock-Pot 5-Quart Slow Cooker Plus Skillet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really like this combination slow cooker and skillet. I bought it in the clearance section of a major chain store because it had no product manual but was able to get one from manufacturer. We used this for breakfast items like bacon, eggs, hashbrowns. On days we were going to be gone I would put in a whole chicken and have the best waiting for us when we got home. On Sunday morning before church I would put in some meat and a few vegetables and potatoes and have lunch ready when we get home.I even make fried chicken in this you can open the vent to get the skin crispy and still control splatters ..BUT oh my, I got up this morning and either the thermostat or the fry skillet isnt working. I think I can get replacements parts (I think) but it might be cheaper to get a new skillet??? I do LOVE this . I paid $25.00 on clearance.I want another one so bad. I bought it last summer and it quit on Easter Sunday.

Kitchen Scale - 11 pound Review

Kitchen Scale - 11 pound
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'll preface this review by saying that I mainly use this scale in my home brewing hobby to weigh out different amounts of grains and hops. For those purposes I love everything about this scale. The dial is super large and easy to read and the adjustment wheel makes this scale very easy to set to "zero". I appreciate the fact that the measuring bowl is dishwasher/water safe and that its base fits over a raised area making it vary stable and nearly impossible to tip off of the body of the scale. The only real drawback is that this scale is not very accurate in measuring very small amounts like 1/4 ounces. For that get the smaller Progressive scale.
This is just a well thought out product that works very well and is surprisingly inexpensive for what you get. Highly recommended!

Norpro Jumbo Easy Read Meat Thermometer Review

Norpro Jumbo Easy Read Meat Thermometer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I originally gave this meat thermometer five stars, for looks(ez to see and read compared to most) but on my first use the inside numbers bubbled. they didn't seem too bad, so I used it again. Taking it out of the oven, I discovered the thing had bubbled so badly it stopped the indicator from moving. So the junk sits in my garage, for eleven bucks, its to costly to send back. It really started out as a heavy duty well made meat thermometer, the back even let the light in to make it look lit up. Save your money, don't buy it.

Even on the lowest setting it boiled, it cooks at way too high a temperature. Food was overcooked, it is a waste of money. I'll stick with my old one. You would think appliances could be IMPROVED upon over time. It looks good, but doesn't do the job for which it is intended.

Rival SCRC501-SS 5-Quart Countdown Slow Cooking Crock Pot Cooker, Stainless Steel Review

Rival SCRC501-SS 5-Quart Countdown Slow Cooking Crock Pot Cooker, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I loved my crockpot, but the crock part lasted less than two years (and yes, I followed instructions regarding not immersing a hot crock in cold water, and filling at least half way). The crock cracked slightly after using only a few times (which I read somewhere was normal). As of today, the crock part is no longer usable and I see that the company's website doesn't have replacement parts for this particular model, which means I'll have to buy an entire new slow cooker. I loved my crockpot and used it all the time, but having recently lost a job, I can't really afford to replace it at this time. I'm very disappointed. I expect my appliances to last more than a year and a half.

Crock-Pot SCV702 7-Quart Oval Manual Slow Cooker, Red Review

Crock-Pot SCV702 7-Quart Oval Manual Slow Cooker, Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just felt compelled to share what I've found out about slow cookers.
We purchased this model slow cooker a few months back to use about 1x per week.
After using it several times, I discovered to my horror that the ceramic inserts - the darker color glazes all contain lead to some degree. Despite the manufacturers claim that their slow cookers abide by the FDA standards set in place, I did not feel safe using this product. Although the amount of lead in the slow cooker may abide by FDA standards, this is not zero, I believe that the FDA allows 7ppm to leach into the food over a 24 hour period to be considered "safe". There is currently no known safe level for lead exposure. Since I am cooking for my family, including a 2 year old, I decided to stop using this appliance. Lead doesn't leave your system, and accumulates over time, this is not exactly what I want swimming around my homemade chicken soup! After contacting the company, and asking if their slow cooker had any amounts of lead, and if so how much, I was told that information was proprietary! So, in other words, yes, our product contains lead, but we won't tell you how much it contains. Ridiculous!
After doing a bit more research online, I have come to find out that the white slow cookers are the way to go. Hamilton Beach was tested and found to have zero levels of lead leaching into the food after heating it for 2 days.
Bottom line is do your research before buying these appliances. Stay away from the dark color inserts, stick to white, and hamilton beach appears to be the safest from the research I've done.
