Crock Pot SCVC604HSS 6-Quart Programmable Hinged Smartpot Slow Cooker Review

Crock Pot SCVC604HSS 6-Quart Programmable Hinged Smartpot Slow Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This slow cooker has liberated my cooking. I'm a 68 year old vegetarian guy who cooks as very little as I can get away with and still deliver healthy, very tasty food. I can't buy the things prepared which I need, as the market doesn't yet supply them. So I make up recipes which fold in the very healthy foods I want in my diet. I'd found no way to do that with whole grains and dried beans, each of which took an amount of time which was unacceptable to me.
Huzzah! My wife talked this very "late adopter" (I just got a cell phone, too) to buy this crock pot, when we found it on sale. Whole grain combined with dried bean dishes of all varieties are very quick to prepare (just throw everything in together, mix, turn on the heat and the timer and walk away for 5 to 10 hours) and very tasty the next morning when I wake up hungry for them.
I've used this about twice a week for the month that I have it. It does the above admirably. My wife made a beef stew in it which she found wonderful and, again, just the easiest to do. So, "so far, so good". Maybe I'll find some drawbacks as I get more experience. If so, I'll update this at the time. BUT for an old dog who very, very reluctantly learns new tricks, and is definitely not a typical cook (a noncook, really), this is a very functional new tool in my food life.
By the way, it's very simple to use and very quick and easy to clean up after use. Just be careful not to add very hot fluids to the heavy ceramic cooking vessel when its cold, or very cold fluids to it when it is hot, as I understand they can and do crack under such conditions. It is very heavy to lift when being cleaned, so one must use care not to drop it. But, basically, quick and easy both to use and to clean up after.

Stay or Go 33164 Cooker & Steamer Review

Stay or Go 33164 Cooker and Steamer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was given a Rival programmable 6qt over the holidays. Cooked way too hot. Did some research and decided on this slow cooker. I decided to do an experiment. I took my old 3.5qt Rival(about 10yrs old), the new 6qt Rival programmable and the Hamilton Stay or Go and put water in each about an inch from the top. Set them each on low and took temperature readings after 6 hours. The Rival 6qt was 20 degrees warmer than the other two. This slow cooker works great.
My only complaint was the rubber smell. I believe this smell comes from the seal on the lid.

Cuisinart PSC-350 3-1/2-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker Review

Cuisinart PSC-350 3-1/2-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This cooker has a digital timer that you can set to cook at your chosen setting (Simmer, Low, High) for any time up to 24 hours. At the end of the set cooking time, it automatically switches to Warm, and then switches itself off after another eight hours. IMO, a truly "Programmable" cooker would change heat settings during cooking, and perhaps have a delayed start function; this unit does neither.
On the other hand, the Simmer setting is what's missing from some other slow cookers, and perhaps that's why foods get burned. This cooker heats to 185°F on Simmer, 200°F on Low, 212°F on High, and 165°F on Warm. Some cook books, including Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook, assume that Low is 180°. 180°F is the oven temperature I've always used for slow cooking a leg of lamb, London broil, and other roasts, so the lower Simmer setting is something I appreciate.
The stainless steel housing, glass lid, control panel, and ceramic pot are all nicely constructed and finished - nothing's cheap-looking or flimsy - and looks like they'll last for years. The 3-1/2qt oval pot holds a 2-1/2lb chuck roast without the meat touching the sides, and there's enough room for a layer of vegetables (a couple of cups chopped) a layer a meat a couple inches thick, and new potatoes on top. You could cook a complete meal in this for three or four people. Mine is a one-person household and this is the ideal size for me; anything smaller wouldn't make enough leftovers.
The included cookbook has nutritional information - number of servings, calories, carbs, fat, protein, sodium, and more - for all 50 recipes. I gave it four stars instead of five because it's not what I consider programmable, but I'm very pleased with it for the price.

Hamilton Beach Premiere Cookware 5-1/2-Quart Slow Cooker Review

Hamilton Beach Premiere Cookware 5-1/2-Quart Slow Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was watching Rick Bayless' "Mexico, One Plate At a Time" and saw him using something like this so I tracked it down on Amazon. What a great idea -- the removable pot is made of cast aluminum and can go onto a stove top. I can saute vegetables, brown a roast and then lift the pot (using oven mitts) into the slow cooker to finish while I'm at work.
The aluminum pot's walls and bottom are about half an inch think and distribute heat evenly. I expected to find hot spots because it's oblong and my burners are round. That wasn't a problem. I've simmered marinara sauce directly on the stove top and haven't noticed any difference in temperature between the center of the pot and either end. I've also used it on the stove top to cook lasagna noodles. It's large enough to roast a whole chicken.
Sometimes slow cookers finish their cycles with everything done well, but with too much liquid left in the pot. With this one, I can just set the pot on a burner and quickly thicken the sauce.
I'm impressed.

Crock-Pot 38501-C 5-Quart Round Programmable Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel Review

Crock-Pot 38501-C 5-Quart Round Programmable Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

We have always owned Rival crock pots in the past, but somebody else must be making this brand 'Crock Pot' now, because the entire experience is different. Don't get me wrong, the unit looks very nice, and if High meant high temperature and Low meant low temperature, this unit would be a perfect fit in many kitchens. However, low means 212 degrees on this unit, which will scald your soups and burn your slow cooked roast recipe. Warm is the only usable 'slow cook' setting on the entire unit, and even that is over 180 degrees (and is the setting that doesn't have a timer on it). If you are looking for a timed 'set and forget' unit, skip this one. You'll come home to overcooked or burnt meals.

Crock-Pot SCCPBP600S 6-Quart Oval Programmable Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel Review

Crock-Pot SCCPBP600S 6-Quart Oval Programmable Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used this Crock-Pot several times in the few weeks that I've owned it, and I can say that I am truly more than pleased with this purchase! My previous slow cooker was a Rival Brand crockpot which tended to boil my food on low. I never felt comfortable leaving my old slow cooker on while I was at work for 9+ hours each day. For any recipe that called for 8 hours of low cooking time, the meal would be ready within 3-4 hours and would start to scortch the sides shortly after!
When I started my search for a new crockpot, I considered all options, including high end ranges like All Clad and Breville. I'm MORE than thrilled that I went the route of this Crock-Pot. Yes, it isn't as "programmable" as some (it's options for cooking are ONLY low: 8 or 10 hours and high: 4 or 6 hours - it also has a WARM setting).
For my very first use, I decided that I would try it on a Saturday, when I could monitor how the slow cooker actually cooked the food. I didn't really want to leave the house using an appliance for the first time. I noticed that it cooked the chicken very slowly. I was thrilled with the results. An 8 hour recipe really did take 8 hours, which was SO unlike my other slow cooker! It really does cook on low - barely a simmer - which is exactly how a slow cooker should be! After the cook time is up, it automatically switches to the WARM feature, and remains on WARM for up to 6 hours (which is a nice safety feature in case you forget to turn off the pot).
Clean up is a breeze! The insert is dishwasher safe, and the brushed stainless steel wipes up perfectly. It is a very large appliance, so be sure you have the counterspace or the storage space for it! The lid fits snuggly on to the pot - it has a rubber seal, which really helps at preventing a sliding or bubbling lid.
Overall, I'm thrilled with this purchase - I'm so glad that I decided to take a chance on this slow cooker instead of spending 3-4 times the amount on a high-end one!

Hamilton Beach 33966 Set 'n Forget 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker Review

Hamilton Beach 33966 Set 'n Forget 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker

I LOVE this slow cooker. The meat probe means I can make a roast that can be medium or medium well, not nessecarily cooked to a lump o mush. I love that you can cook on "manual" mode like a traditiona slow cooder, or you can use the timer and once the time is up it will automatically keep the food warm on warming mode, or you can set a temperature for doneness for the meat probe and then the slow cooker will switch to keep warm. Doens't cook overly hot and is able to cook perfectly even when the crock is only half or 3/4 full.

TIGER NFAB800 COOKER 8 LITER THERMAL MAGIC Review

TIGER NFAB800 COOKER 8 LITER THERMAL MAGIC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My mother has happily used her Tiger Thermal Magic Cooker (the 4.5-liter size) for several years now, and I found myself using it whenever I visited her house, so I finally caved and bought two: the 8-liter and the 4.5-liter. I am very pleased with these. I make everything from chilis, goulash, and other stews and braises to simple chicken soup, baked beans, and even rice pudding, to name just a few. I just bring the foods in the covered inner pot to a boil on the stovetop, place the pot in the outer container, close the lid, and leave it. It cooks solely with the heat in the pot, so there's no other energy-use -- very economical and ecological. I can leave the house, even, and safely be cooking; I love the freedom. Unlike a slowcooker, there's no heating element to burn the bottom of the pot, to draw electricity, to worry about. And I can't believe how long foods stay safely warm in these cookers; it's still warm the next day! Clean-up is simple, too. The initial cost is not low, but you'll easily recoup the cost in energy-savings.

I purchased this at a store. I thought I was getting a 7 qt. slow cooker. When I measured the stoneware only holds 6 qt. I called Crock-pot customer service and was told that they measure the cooker and the stoneware holds less. Have used it a few times already and though it cooks great and went to the warm setting as advertised. I still feel that I didn't get what I paid for.

Hamilton Beach 33967 Set 'n Forget 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker
Average Reviews:

We love this product! The features on it are fantastic. We especially like the probe setting. You simply insert the probe into your meat and it will monitor the cooking process until the meat has reached the desired temperature. It then automatically switches to a low setting to keep your meal warm until you are ready to eat. There's no guessing how long it will take to cook. Throw in a few vegetables and have a home-cooked meal with very little fuss!
Another awesome feature is the clip-tight gasket lid. It's perfect for traveling to pot-luck dinners without worrying that you will ruin the upholstery in your car from a spill.
Our family highly recommends this product!
One note of caution. Watch the price when ordering online. Amazon currently has it selling for nearly $200, but it can be found in stores for a fraction of that price--usually $50-$60.
