Hamilton Beach 35135 Meal Maker Multicooker, Stainless Steel Review

Hamilton Beach 35135 Meal Maker Multicooker, Stainless Steel

Although this versatile appliance will steam and boil as well as deep fry, it was its frying ability that caught my interest and convinced me to buy it. And am I glad I did for last night we enjoyed some of the best fried chicken ever to come out of my kitchen. And yes, that's saying something. While we don't overindulge in fried foods, through the years I've fried my share of chicken, most of it to positive reviews. This batch was particularly moist and juicy, yet crisp on the outside, a fact which I attribute, at least in part, to the adjustable temperature gauge on the Multicooker. None of my other deep fryers had that feature. With the others, I was forced to rely on the manufacturers' preset temperature which I suspect wasn't really hot enough to prevent the chicken from absorbing some of the oil and becoming somewhat soggy. The Multicooker allows a range of 250° to 375 ° F. I set it at 375° as the manual suggests and the results were mouthwatering.
As for capacity, it's generous. The basket measures roughly 8" long by 7" wide and 3 1/2" deep. I was able to fit 4 large chicken thighs per batch with room to spare. I'm sure I could have added two more but I preferred to err on the side of caution to avoid overcrowding. Because the chicken was boneless and skinless, each batch only took about 10 minutes and was perfectly done. I fried three batches back-to-back and had no problems with the fryer overheating.
Deep frying is usually messy no matter how careful you try to be but my experience in that department was pretty positive too. The cooker is solidly built and simple to assemble. The lid fits the pot securely and the basket is easy to raise and lower with the lid in place, which greatly reduces spattering and the risk of burns.
I have no doubt that I'll use the Multicooker for boiling and steaming at some point but if all it ever did was deep fry, I'd still consider it money well spent.

Sensio 13003 Bella Cucina 4-Quart Manual Slow Cooker Review

Sensio 13003 Bella Cucina 4-Quart Manual Slow Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned several crock pots over the years, but when I am cooking for just myself and my husband the bigger crock pots scorched the food because there wasn't
enough in there to properly cook slowly (I researched this online, and found crockpots need to be at least half full to cook properly). So I bought this smaller 4 qt size and it's perfect size for our smaller meals. I'v used it twice now and it cooks evenly and the meals turn out cooked just right. I like the oval design, if I wanted to, I could fit a whole chicken in it.
It has rubber on the bottom of the feet, so it will not slide around on the counter.
That said, I do wish the cord was a bit longer. And the controls are very simple; off, low, high, warm (manual). But I knew that before I bought it.
When the food was cooked, I turned it to warm, it didn't over heat the meal in the hour+ it sat waiting to be consumed, it just stayed warm, (Aw, finally). My other crock pot would be on warm, and the food would burn up within an hour. So this is a true slow cooker and for us, it works very well. And the price was unbeatable too!

Hamilton Beach 33163 Stay Or Go 6 Quart Oval Slow Cooker Review

Hamilton Beach 33163 Stay Or Go 6 Quart Oval Slow Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned many slow cookers; all which were given to me, also they were typically hand me downs. This is the first cooker that I have actually bought. For me, this cooker does a great job, it does not cook any better or worse than the other cookers I have had, but it is larger and has a few nice features. 1, it has a sealed lid than can be tightly connected for travel (the other night we moved 5 quarts of hot pasta sauce to my sister-in-law's house. There was sauce all over the inside of the lid, but none of the sauce made it out). 2, It comes with a plastic spoon; nothing special about the spoon, but it attaches to the lid for travel. 3, there is a lid rest that allows you to set the lid to the side without setting it on your counter. 4, the side handles have a rubber coating , are securely attached and extend quite a way from the side of the cooker (which is good because it gets hot). This cooker did not come with the carry case, but there are versions that do. Those versions cost more than the $28.00 that this one cost me.
Some reviews go own about the cookers being too hot on the low setting. I put 4 quarts of water in the cooker. After 6 hours, the water temp was 208 degrees. I don't know if that is good or bad, but I don't think it should boil (212 degrees)on the low setting.
The cooker is roughly 13.5 pounds (on my scale)
I measures approximately 10.5" tall by 17' wide by 13" deep.
It cleans up well, the crock is removable and dishwasher safe. The exterior is stainless steel;I use a stainless polish on my appliances. The cord is not detachable.
I believe this is a great little cooker, it has Off, High, low, and warm settings. It does not have the fancy electronic controls and timers that some of the more expensive units have, but I kind of like the reliability of the switch style controls.
Perhaps the feet on the bottom of the cooker could be a little better than the protruding metal dimples. It slides very easily (maybe too easy) across the counter.

Hamilton Beach 33141 4-Quart Oval Slow Cooker Review

Hamilton Beach 33141 4-Quart Oval Slow Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are 2 kinds of slow cookers, depending on where the heat source is. This Hamilton Beach unit has heat coils around the sides which stay hot, as opposed to slow cookers with heat sources in the base, which turn on and off intermittently. I have found that with this type of constant heat slow cooker (with the coils around the sides) I don't need to add as much liquid. In fact I cut the liquid (water or stock) by half of what the recipes call for when I use this cooker. The 4 quart size is good for roasts up to 3 or so pounds. If you slow cook chicken or game hens in it, cut the bird up into pieces and remove the skins. Don't slow cook a whole uncut bird (in any kind of slow cooker).
This is a nice little slow cooker for a single, a couple, or a small family. I have had no problems with the knob* (as yet).
*The knob problem probably arises from the close proximity of the heating element to the knob, as opposed to slow cookers that heat from the bottom, away from the knob...
NOVEMBER 2007 UPDATE: We still love this little slow cooker. It is perfect for making Irish beef stews all winter long. The knob on ours has not broken yet but we try to be gentle with it, due to the warnings we read.
DECEMBER 2008 UPDATE: We're still using this 4 quart slow cooker. We have used it for a lot of baked beans and slow cooked barbecue beef dishes on the weekends. The knob has not broken yet, but we are not rough with it either. We really like this little slow cooker.
FEBRUARY 2009 UPDATE: The cooker still works fine. We have used it once a week or more this winter, for everything from navy beans to chuck roasts. The knob has not broken yet (we are gentle with the knob if it's hot).
JANUARY 2010 UPDATE: The cooker still works well and the knob is still intact. Took it to work last Tuesday, cooked stuffed chicken cutlets & veggies in the kitchenette/break room, everybody loved them, there were no leftovers.

I am very happy with this, but it is enormous. With the handles, it's 15.5" across - i wasn't expecting anything that big. So keep that in mind when you factor in where you plan to store it. But it operates very well, have not had any problem at all with overheating, which seems to be a major complaint of many brands and models, and have tried it with several recipies using the 2- and 4-quart size bowls. On Target site, multiple people complined that it stopped working shortly after purchase. That worried me, but so far I have been lucky, and it's working fine.

Crock-Pot SCV401TR 4-Quart Oval Manual Slow Cooker, Red Review

Crock-Pot SCV401TR 4-Quart Oval Manual Slow Cooker, Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was looking for a crockpot that wasn't too large and wasn't too expensive. This product fit the bill.
The lid is treated glass so, you can see the food cooking without lifting the lid. The lid handle stays cool during the cooking, so you won't burn your fingers if you touch it. The ceramic cooker is sturdy and alittle heavy. It can become slippery when wet, so be careful while washing it in the sink. Also be careful because the handles on the cooker and the metal base can become very hot during cooking. So keep potholders nearby.
The cooker can accomodate a 3.5-4 pound whole chicken and 4 pound roasts. It's oval shape enables these foods to fit well. It comes with a small instruction manual that includes some recipes.
So far, I've cooked whole grain cereal (barley and cracked wheat), stews, whole chickens, corned-beef, and turkey legs. They've turned out good. However, since I'm new to slow-cooking, the first attempts were abit off because I cooked the food too long. But now, I'm better with the timing so the food is better.
Just a side note, if you like eating whole grain cereals, the slow cooker is terrific. You don't need to stand over a stove stirring the pot and worrying it will boil over. This cooking method allows the grains to fully absorb the water, which makes for a creamier end result. Plus, you can toss the grains and water into the cooker at bedtime and it's done in time for your breakfast.
I do have a two very minor complaints:
1. The packaging. The cooker is packaged in a way that you have to slide it out of the box. If you aren't careful, you could drop the ceramic cooker or the glass lid.
2. The handle to the lid was alittle loose, and could be made tighter with 1 turn. But that might not be a design flaw, but a way to compensate for the expansion of the glass during the cooking process. So, don't mess with it, imo.
Otherwise this is a great product.

Hamilton Beach 33144 Stay-or-Go 4-Quart Slow Cooker, White Review

Hamilton Beach 33144 Stay-or-Go 4-Quart Slow Cooker, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
NOTES: First, the "locking handles for easy transport": the locks are on the body of the slow cooker, so you can't take out the porcelain insert and lock the lid onto it; if you want it locked, you have to take the whole device. Second, I guess mostly because of the rubber gasket on the lid, the cooker creates a tightly sealed cooking compartment, and things cook differently as a result. Liquids don't cook off anywhere near as fast, and the flavors don't cook together quite the same.
PROS: The shape of the oval cooker is perfect. I've gotten a four-pound roast in the little thing. The temperature goes from just-warm to boiling, very versatile. It can go longer without attention because it retains moisture so well.
CONS: Some slow-cooker recipes may need tweaking; the cooking compartment is sealed pretty tightly whether or not the handles are locked (you're not supposed to cook with it sealed, but I do occasionally to concentrate flavors). More seriously, like most removable-insert crockpots, it wastes a lot of heat on the outside - it gets quite hot to the touch and is not efficient for summer use by any means.
Overall, for a small, not-too-expensive crockpot, it's really quite nice! I've now had it for quite a while, and cooked a lot of meals in it. Still works, still cleans up easily, dinner's routinely ready when I get home.

4 Quart Slow Cooker 33141 Review

4 Quart Slow Cooker 33141
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a very attractive but very basic cooker. What I mean by that is it has nothing digital on it, no timer, no temperature gauge not even a power light "which would have been nice". It has a hand knob with off, warm, low and high on it, nice and simple. It has a heavy crock that fits inside and an attractive glass cover. It also has a very attractive silver and black exterior. It does not take up very much room on our counter top, just a little more than a loaf of bread. In fact that is what we store in it when it's not in use. The price from this vender seems high with the shipping charge. If you check around you will probably find a better price on this.
This oval cooker will hold a larger piece of meat in it as apposed to a round one of a comparable size. It really does not have to be watched when cooking. The heat comes from around the sides instead of the bottem, so nothing to burn on the bottem. Meat comes out more tender by cooking it on low for a longer period of time, as apposed to cooking on high for a shorter time. I love pot roast, that is one of the main reasons I go it. It will hold up to about a 4 lb. roast, more than enough for my wife and I. Some dishes requre cooking on high for so many hours and than switch to low heat for the remainder of the time. I'm retired and it is no problem for me to do it manually. But if you work or are going to be out of the house all day, you might want to consider a digital cooker. Most of these can be set to automatically switch from high to low and warm at a preset time. So far it has worked out well for me with the manual settings, and I am very happy with it.
I gave this 5 stars not because this is the best slow cooker out there " I don't know that " but because it is doing every thing I expected it to do when I bought it.

I bought this cooker after buying the Hamilton Beach stow and go slow cooker - 5 quart. I returned the 5 quart because I really didn't like the meals that it produced and it was way too big. I bought this tiny cooker in all honesty to make my irish oatmeal. Which I might add it does beautifully.
I do a lot of Indian cooking...on a whim I decided to split my rogan josh recipe and put 1/2 in the cooker and 1/2 on the stovetop. I must tell you that my husband and I were blown away by the cooker's results. The flavors permeated the meat and the texture was spot on. This is an amazing little appliance. I've had it for about a year and only used it for Oatmeal up until this past Sunday. I can tell you its sturdy, reliable and perfect for singles and couples.

I bought this crock-pot specifically for traveling, and I bought a "crock pot travel bag" to go with it. The first time traveling, my soup spilled everywhere (even though we carried it upright). The lock kept the meat and veggies in, but I had a huge mess to clean up when I got to work, and I lost a good inch of liquid as a result. I will be more careful next time and pack it in the car on the floor with towels, but the entire reason I bought a locking-lid crock pot was so I wouldn't have to go to all that bother.
It is very handsome, though, and cooks nicely.
EDIT -- Later today, I was taking the crock pot home. The food inside was warm, but not hot. It had been on the "warm" setting for hours and was turned off completely for 15 minutes before being packed up. I locked the lid, and 15 minutes later in the car *pop* the lid shattered.
Very, very dissapointing.

West Bend 84905 5-Quart Oblong-Shaped Slow Cooker Review

West Bend 84905 5-Quart Oblong-Shaped Slow Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the best small appliance I have ever had. I have had it 20 years or so. I cook everything in it: pot roasts, pork roasts, stew, pulled pork, beans, etc. I have purchased about 8 of them over the years for wedding gifts, college graduation gifts, Xmas, etc.

There are two main reasons I love this so much. One is the versitility of the heat control. I hate crockpots because all you get is low and high! Give me a break, who cooks like that?? These have settings from 1-5, almost as many as a stove burner. I can brown my stew or roast on 5 then turn it down to 3 or halfway between 3 & 4 or 4 depending on how long I want to be away from the house or want it to cook. The base doubles as a griddle by itself. Takes up very little counter and storage space. The pot goes into the oven or on the stove if you need or want it to. The pot and lid go into the dishwasher, although I ususally just give a quick wash with hot soapy water and wipe off the base. The other reason I love it is it is small and lightweight. No heavy monster crockpots to handle, try to lift full of food and then try and wash!
I have the older model of this cooker that is 6 quarts. At the time I purchased it you had the choice of 4 or 6 qt size. After 20 years I need to replace it, although it still works perfectly, the teflon pot lining is scratched and the teflon coating on the base(griddle) is flaking. But after 20 years of using it 3-5 times a week, its certainly held up wonderfully. I am now purchasing two more, one for me and one as a wedding gift! My only regret is that they no longer make the 6 quart in this model, only the 5 qt. I would recommend it without question!! Enjoy!

Average Reviews:

I just got the 3-in-1 a few days ago and have only used it once, but I'm so impressed! I almost got a single-crock six-quart slow cooker before I discovered this one, and I'm so pleased that I purchased this one instead.
Like others, I really appreciate the three crocks, the clever way they nest and that one lid fits all. The two- and four-quart crocks are easier to handle than the six, especially in the sink, so I expect to get a lot more use out of this than if I had gone with a single-crock six. Also, the two smaller crocks fit in my microwave, and the six would not -- very handy for heating the leftovers. I'm glad to have the six-quart crock as well as the other two, though.
The unit seems more sturdily constructed than some I saw in stores. I personally prefer the simple knob over the programmable touchpads. As at least one other reviewer mentioned, the high and low settings really do seem to work.
I wish you could use the lid in the microwave, but you can't, probably because it has a metal rim. A 10-1/4" dinner plate served as a nicely fitting substitute, but it was more difficult to remove from the steaming crock than it would have been using the crock's lid with its knob. This one complaint is a minor one and not important enough to downgrade to four stars in light of the unit's great assets.
