Le Creuset 6-Oz. Stoneware Butter Crock Review

This is just the kind of thing we were looking for - a way to store butter at room temperature so it's easily spread, but protected so it doesn't go bad. The water doesn't really interfere with using the lid to spread butter, and it's not hard to remember to change the water when we run the dishwasher every 2-3 days. We hand wash this so I can't speak to whether it's really dishwasher-safe, but it seems sturdy and well-made. One thing to remember is that you can't just shove a stick of refrigerated butter in here; the butter must be packed into the cup so it sticks to the sides in order to prevent it falling out into the water when you want to use it. This means you have to let the butter come to room temperature before you pack it into the butter crock, and you have to pack it in well in order to make sure it sticks to the sides of the cup.
My one complaint about this product is that it simply doesn't store six ounces of butter like it says it does: one four-ounce stick of butter comes almost to the rim of the cup once you've packed it in firmly, so it really only stores four ounces. Considering I paid more for this one specifically because it stored the extra two ounces, I'm frustrated it doesn't store those extra two ounces like the description says.

Le Creuset Stoneware Butter Crock, Cobalt Review

This crock actually works. You'll have room temperature butter anytime you want it. It holds about 1 and 1/2 sticks of butter. Just bring the butter to room temperature, pack it tightly in the upside-down cup, fill the base with a little water, and your butter will stay fresh and at room temperature. Although the instructions suggest changing the water every 3-4 days, I find that I only need to change it about once every 10 days or so. When using the butter, be careful to remove it evenly from the top working your way down. If you take too much from one side, the glob of butter will end up sliding out of the cup and down into the water when you pull out the cup. When the cup is full of butter, you'll have some water clinging to its surface, but blotting with a paper towel will easily solve that problem.

Norpro 5-Inch Ceramic Garlic Keeper Review

This was even nicer than I had expected, about 3 inches high at the shoulder and 4 inches across, it is big enough to hold six full heads of garlic. It came through the dishwasher okay and is more pleasant to look at than a clay keeper.

The garlic pot is a must for anyone who likes to cook with fresh garlic. With the ability to keep garlic fresh for a long time, and a relatively small structure that takes up little space on the counter, the garlic pot can be an ideal way to keep your favorite herb nearby and ready for use
